(The Original Heartbreakers #3)
by Gena Showalter
Synopsis
Millionaire video-game creator Lincoln West has a dark and tragic past. The sought-after bachelor lives by a rigid schedule and a single rule—one relationship per year, lasting no more than two months. No exceptions. He moved to small town Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, with his brothers-by-circumstance hoping to escape the worst of his memories—until a brash beauty dredges up long-buried emotions.
A reformed party girl, Jessie Kay Dillon is determined to walk the straight and narrow. But her love-hate sizzle with West is just too irresistible. They can't be near each other without tearing off their clothes, but the last thing she needs is to be his next two-month dump. Can she be the one exception? Because as any former girl-gone-wild knows: rules are made to be broken
*does a little shimmy* I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! This was totally an "on a whim" purchase from the grocery store. This is also the reason why I didn't know that this is actually the third book in Showalter's The Original Heartbreakers series. I've considered getting the first two books - but I feel like I couldn't possibly love any couple in this series more than I love Jessie Kay and West. *dreamy sigh*
Okay, so - Jessie Kay is awesome. She is sarcastic, badass, but also vulnerable. Both she and West feel damaged, but they are good and strong characters. I admire the determination each character has in wanting to make their lives better. Jessie Kay wants to find someone in her life that will appreciate her, and in the meantime she decides to take care of herself. She does this instead of settling for just anyone to throw her a scrap of time. West is determined not to hurt those he loves and does so by keeping from his old habits (i.e. drugs and alcohol). They are so strict with themselves that they need some help in loosening up - which they do together. I just really enjoyed these characters. I might go back and read #1 and #2 - but I think I've already read about the best couple <3
