King of the Court
by Melanie Munton

Synopsis

CAM DONOVAN
Cam has been the king of college basketball for the past three years. Every season he dominates the basketball scene, and the entire country loves him. Well, everyone except for the only girl whose attention he actually wants.

REESE BRADLEY
As the new trainer for the men’s basketball team at North Calhoun University, Reese literally can’t stay away from the cocky star forward. She tends to avoid Cam’s type. The big-man-on-campus, alpha male type. But she’s finding it very difficult to ignore him and his relentless flirting.

THERE’S JUST ONE PROBLEM
Reese is the coach’s daughter. Cam’s coach has made it very clear that all members of his team are to keep their hands off Reese, no exceptions. With his final season at NCU under way, the last thing Cam needs is for his team’s dynamic to be screwed up, all because he couldn’t keep from screwing the coach’s daughter. He has to stay far away from her if he wants to take his team all the way.

MAKE THAT TWO PROBLEMS
Trey Warren. Point guard for NCU’s rival school. A.k.a., Cam’s long-time arch rival and coincidentally, Reese’s greatest nemesis. Trey is the one person who can send Cam’s basketball empire crumbling to the ground. Not to mention make matters between Cam and Reese even more complicated.

As the highly publicized rivalry between Cam and Trey intensifies, the attraction between Cam and Reese heats up to scorching levels. No matter what, they know they have to resist each other. The more they deny their feelings, though, the stronger the pull between them becomes.

But can they withstand secrets, betrayals, rivalries, and the ever-present press? Even if they break all the rules, will they be strong enough to fight through the forces conspiring against them?

AFTER ALL, EVEN KINGS CAN BE OVERTHROWN…

Review

I am a sucker for a sports romance, and if you're anything like me, reader, you have a soft spot for it too. I don't understand it really - I don't know much of anything about any sport, and am often annoyed by certain sports (e.g. football). But a sports romance? Oh, I love it.

Cam is the ultimate sports romance hero in that he's a bit arrogant, loyal to his sport and team, and after a woman who sees the conflict in their getting together. Reese is an intelligent and level-headed heroine who finds it very difficult to ignore her attraction to Cam. Mix this chemistry/intensity with the fact that Reese's father is Cam's coach and you got yourself some tension.

There is some fantastic banter between the two, and it was quite fun to read. I love listening to witty banter. This also came as a surprise since it took me a bit to get into the book. It certainly wasn't a long time, but it did take a short bit. However, once I got into it, oh, it was sooo good. I definitely recommend this for my fellow romance readers - if you haven't tried a sports romance, let this be your first one.

Seducing Cinderella
(Fighting for Love Book 1)
by Gina L. Maxwell

Synopsis
Mixed martial arts fighter Reid Andrews's chance to reclaim his title as light heavyweight champ is shattered when he's injured only months before the rematch. To make sure he's healed in time, his trainer sends him to recuperate under a professional's care--Reid's best friend's little sister, all grown up.

Disorganized and bookish Lucie Miller needs some professional help of her own. She'd do anything to catch the eye of a doctor she's crushed on for years, so when Reid offers seduction lessons in exchange for 24/7 conditioning for the biggest fight of his career, Lucie jumps at the chance.

Soon Reid finds himself in the fight of his life...winning Lucie's heart before she gives it to someone else.

Review
In Seducing Cinderella, Ried is an MMA fighter who has gotten hurt and is in search of a physical therapist to help him mend for his title fight. Enter Lucie, just the professional Reid is looking for and also Reid's best friend's little sister. But of course, little sister has grown up. Lucie has gone through some bad relationship stuff and has sworn off guys that don't fit in with the life she thinks she should have. But in walks Reid, someone she's had a crush on since she was a kid.

The Deal
(Off-Campus Book 1)
by Elle Kennedy

Synopsis
She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy…

Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice…even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.

…and it’s going to be oh so good

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

Review
First of all - look at that cover. This is why I can't justify buying romance sometimes - I tend to be critical of covers, but I really don't like seeing half naked people on my books. I don't mind seeing people, mind you, it's the half naked part that annoys me. It doesn't offend me - it annoys me. But what do I know? the Romance genre is one of the best selling, so I am in the minority.

With that aside, I gotta say - I loved this book! Here are some reasons (yes, there's a list this week):
- instead of insta-love, it's more like insta-attraction, which is more believable to me
- an honest and nice jock
- passionate woman who has more than just the man as an interest (she sings, is a good student, and has her own set of friends)
- believable backgrounds of physical abuse and rape
- seemingly natural progression from physical attraction to real intimacy (trust)
- problems didn't just disappear! characters had to actually talk about them and face them
- not everything was wrapped up with a bow

I really liked the progression of the stories - I came to care about both Garrett and Hannah. I also enjoyed the care that went into both of their back stories. A really great story - totally recommend it.

The Hook Up
Game On Series #1
by Kristen Callihan

Synopsis
The rules: no kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all… No falling in love

Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy, right?

Too bad he’s committed to making her break every rule…

Football has been good to Drew. It’s given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there’s one problem: she's shut him down. Completely.

That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it’s up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she’s truly hooked. It's a good thing Drew knows all about winning.

All’s fair in love and football…Game on

Review
I...have been addicted to romance lately. I'm not entirely sure why, but my suspicion is that it is because they are simply fun to read. They are also fast to read - I can basically get through one in a day if I am allowed the time. I still can't get over the book covers though...bleh. That's mostly why I stick to eBook - it's cheaper too.

Anyway, let's get to the actual book. I really liked The Hook Up. It was steamy, sexy, and I love my bad boy falls for seemingly good girl trope. It helps that Anna is sarcastic and wants to resist Drew's appeal. But we all know what ultimately happens...who can really resist [in a romance novel]? Also, I kinda like the whole....jock with a heart a gold and hey! no dumb jock here....thing. Maybe it's cliche, but I also think that the whole dumb jock thing is a BIGGER cliche. I enjoy a story where the woman is "allowed" to be "bad" and sweet and the man is "allowed" to be both handsome and smart.

One of the best things, however, was that each character had their flaws that they had to overcome. What I especially enjoyed was the fact that them getting together was not the end of their story. The story did a great job of showing what a real relationship would be like. Thumbs up! Sexy and sweet.
