(Fighting for Love Book 1)
by Gina L. Maxwell
Synopsis
Mixed martial arts fighter Reid Andrews's chance to reclaim his title as light heavyweight champ is shattered when he's injured only months before the rematch. To make sure he's healed in time, his trainer sends him to recuperate under a professional's care--Reid's best friend's little sister, all grown up.
Disorganized and bookish Lucie Miller needs some professional help of her own. She'd do anything to catch the eye of a doctor she's crushed on for years, so when Reid offers seduction lessons in exchange for 24/7 conditioning for the biggest fight of his career, Lucie jumps at the chance.
Soon Reid finds himself in the fight of his life...winning Lucie's heart before she gives it to someone else.
In Seducing Cinderella, Ried is an MMA fighter who has gotten hurt and is in search of a physical therapist to help him mend for his title fight. Enter Lucie, just the professional Reid is looking for and also Reid's best friend's little sister. But of course, little sister has grown up. Lucie has gone through some bad relationship stuff and has sworn off guys that don't fit in with the life she thinks she should have. But in walks Reid, someone she's had a crush on since she was a kid.
But maybe - just maybe - I would have bought this stuff if I felt like their characters actually developed. It also all flowed TOO easily. The conflict lasted almost no time. Within a few weeks, Reid realizes that his title fight will be his last (he retires), and decides to change his life for Lucie, whom he left with a pretty bad insult. And then she just takes him back!
I can read time traveling highlander stories, fairies, and all that - but when I read contemporary - I expect it to be somewhat believable. Maybe it was the writing, maybe it was because there was not one character I felt I connected with - but I just couldn't get into this story.
Also - I REALLY didn't like that Reid's final fight was not described. It's basically an afterthought, like, "Oh, hey, I won by the way." Really? *exasperated grunt*
