Review: The Attraction of Adeline

The Attraction of Adeline
by Lisa Wells

Synopsis

The Proposal: Adeline Rigby will live with Accountant Jack Foster and pretend to be his fake fiancée for one month in order for him to seal a promotion to partner. In return, Accountant Jack Foster will intimately tutor Adeline Rigby in French before she leaves for Paris where she will fulfill her dream of attending Le Cordon Bleu.

The Terms:

1. Maintain distance. Three get-to-know-you dates before announcing their engagement will be tempting enough.

2. No kissing. Okay, fine. Three kisses. Maybe four. And neck kisses don’t count.

3. No touchy feely stuff. Or at least not too many public displays of touchy-feely stuff.

4. No sex.

5. All right, all right. One night of sex in order to be a believable engaged couple.

6. Two nights of mind-blowing sex to make sure first night wasn’t a fluke.

7. Absolutely, positively, no falling in love.

Review

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you've been a reader of my blog, you'll know that I absolutely LOVED Lisa Wells's last book, The Seduction of Kinley Foster. I loved the chemistry between the two characters, Kinley and Ian. It stirred up a lot of confusing feelings of nostalgia - needless to say, I connected with the story. Mix that with the fact that Kinley was writer-in-training for romance/erotica, and you had most of my catnip.

Now, I was REALLY looking forward to anything else written by Wells. And I want to remain on the record as saying that I will still read anything else she writes. The Attraction of Adeline, however, did not manage to stir up the same emotions that it's predecessor did. There is nothing really wrong with Adeline or Jack - they have their faults just like any romance hero and heroine have. But I found their chemistry still lacking. I made it 70% in the story, and found that I didn't care enough to finish it. You don't know how horrible this has me feeling - I was so looking forward to it! Maybe it's because I placed it on a pedestal? The first one knocked me off feet which was a very pleasant surprise. Maybe I was looking for a repeat of those feelings?

I suggest you try out this book, and tell me what you think! I definitely enjoy how Wells writes - maybe this one wasn't the one for me. Who knows? Maybe I'll pick it up at another time. For now, I might just go re-read The Seduction of Kinley Foster and rekindle those sparks for myself.

On the Plus Side
by Tabatha Vargo

Synopsis

Big girls need love, too, but at what cost?

Lilly is loaded, not only with money, but with weight. Both things she could do without. But even with her undesired millionaire status, she doesn’t hold on to false hopes of finding true love. So when a sexy stranger comes into her life dripping with seduction, she finds it hard to resist. The bigger they are the harder they fall and Lilly falls straight through the floor in love with Mr. Sexy. Too bad he’s there for all the wrong reasons.

The chance of losing it all will make you do some crazy things and Devin’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep his life together. All seems lost when out of nowhere he’s approached by a Millionaire Momma with an offer he can’t refuse. But even a womanizer like Devin has a heart and when the short, chunky girl with the carefree attitude breaks through his icy façade, he finds that losing everything takes on a whole new meaning.

***Warning: this book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Mature readers only. Not intended for young adult readers.***

Review

I am a sucker for books with a plus size heroine (I wonder why? haha). The best part of this particular book, however, was the twist of how Devin comes across to be in Lilly's life. It shows the reader how there are more layers than what we see in  front of our faces. And any book, any writing, that can give it's characters layers and purpose is the kind of book that I know I will enjoy. On the Plus Side does exactly that. Lilly is a sweet and intelligent woman who doesn't ask for the trouble she inevitable finds herself in. I truly hurt for the pain she feels throughout the book. Devin is a sweet man who means well - who takes care of those he cares about. Layers. This is all about caring  for these characters that are not perfect, but who strive to do better for themselves and those they care about.

Even though this story is trope-y, I could very easily see myself seeing these characters as people. Now that, is good story telling.
