It was wonderful to step back into a Comfort Stories novel, Comfort Zone, by Kimberly Fish. It's all in the name - it is cozy and comforting to be back in this world of Comfort, Texas.

I'm truly a sucker for love stories, especially one that finds itself rooted in a natural beginning with sweet gestures and kind smiles. What we find in Comfort Zone is exactly that - but it's still so much more!

What readers get in Comfort Zone is more than a romance story. We get great characters like Anna and Jack and their secrets and the tribulations they've had to encounter in their lives. Anna plays my favorite tropes in a leading lady - she's strong, strong willed, so smart, and loving. She has also come to know her worth. This is very important to me in a character, above all else. And jack is there, trying the best that he can to overcome his own problems and be present with Anna. Along the way, we are pulled into this pursuit of information that is where Fish's storytelling shines right alongside the very distinct personalities she's given her characters.

And at the background is this lovely place, Comfort. Full of its characters and characteristics, it is totally a pleasure to be back in there. If this is your first foray into the Comfort series, then no worries - I guarantee that once you get started, you're going to want to head back in with another story in Comfort.

The Bones of Amoret by Arthur Herbert is a novel told in reflection. It begins with Dr. Noah Grady speaking about his life, reflecting on all that happened many years before him. All stories have a beginning, and I find it intriguing when stories technically begin at their seeming end.

The characterization of Dr. Grady is probably one of my favorite things about this story. He is a sympathetic character who does his best to do what’s right, even when it may bring trouble to his door. In a story filled with mystery and twists, Dr. Grady is definitely a ray of sunshine and sweetness.

This novel has brought to the forefront the pain of life, loss, and morality. We also get to read about love and friendship within its pages. So, while we’re riding along with Dr. Grady’s point of view during the disappearance of Blaine Beckett, we’re also learning so much about compassion. It’s through Grady’s reflection of the past where we learn all the difficulties and impossible tasks that’s been bestowed upon him. Herbert’s writing is authentic and true - it gives life the story that is more than just a mystery.

Amoret is filled with thrills and turns. I was not expecting the ending whatsoever, and in a world where it can be a lot harder to surprise an audience, that was much appreciated.

They say never judge a book by it's cover, and we really shouldn't, but when the book has a cover like Odd Birds? Well, do you blame me for wanting to pick it up?

Odd Birds is a detailed and atmospheric story set in the early 1960s about our protagonist, Cosimo and his losses and travels, along to the land of San Antonio, Texas. It's been a long time since I've been to San Antonio myself, but I could picture it with the lovely details by the author, Severo Perez.

Along with the detailed description of "place", we also have fantastic descriptions of the characters. Each with their own very particular personalities and quirks.

Odd Birds is a dual focused story focused on the Cuban-born artist Cosimo and his travels in having followed his love to Texas and its partner story of those who work at the local library. Namely, that of the assistants, Richard, Maddie, and Oscar, and their navigation of each day to day. A great juxtaposition to these three within the library is that of the character of Ruthann, the librarian who definitely has a hard time with the integration and change going on in the library.

What I truly found within the pages of Odd Birds was the realization that all things change, as much as we mourn the losses, and all the bittersweetness that comes with it. I recommend this book to all open to reading about the pain and love that can come with change.
