Author Insights
Julie is a creative member of the R-Group who prefers being behind the scenes.  She is an agile character portrayed as a cyber assassin with an innate ability to identify and neutralize cyber scum or build new identities. We leverage the many sides of Julie, including her endearing smile, throughout the series. This recurring cyber hero is happiest when close to the action and able to make a positive impact. One of her best skills is her ability to think on her feet and cut to the chase—A no-nonsense lady.
Julie appears in several books in the series, however in The Enigma Rising, she is handling our favorite pair of bad boys, Carlos and Juan. She creates a scenario for a quid pro quo exchange. These boys got themselves into trouble and ended up with limited options. We invite you to read this book to learn the whys and wherefores of their obstacles to overcome.
As you have undoubtedly experienced at some point in your life, friendships and mutual respect can spark something even with unlikely couples. Time and space align in such a way that Juan and Julie unexpectedly share their innermost emotional baggage from their younger years. This exchange pulls them closer. When they drop their façade to protect emotional scars, readers see humans afraid of personal relationships. This snippet is from their first friend date and prompted this short story creation. Reviewers have enjoyed this dynamite pair and frequently comment on them. Readers also wanted to know more about Julie’s history. Writing this short story allowed us to flush out details that we removed as unneeded from the novel itself. We believe it is a powerful story that frames Julie’s world view and endears her to fans.

About the Story

Picture
The Jewel takes the reader to witness the struggle of a young couple in post-World War II Europe. We believe people are defined by what they triumph over.

Haddy and Otto are so in love. They started their family only to learn Haddy could have no more children. Haddy adores her daughter and helps her grow but, over time, slides down the slope of depression.

Otto, refusing to lose the love of his heart, comes to an inflection point. He coaxes Haddy out for the evening to celebrate her birthday, the first time in four years. Using his charm and wit, he plans the evening to court her like before they married.

They both dressed up in their finery for the night of celebration. Their evening progresses better than he hoped when Haddy behaves carefree as she laughs and gests with him. Walking through the alley to the theatre, they are confronted by two no accounts looking to rob them and more.

Otto instantly shifts to the warrior to protect his bride in the blink of an eye. Can one man defeat two practiced thieves and protect his wife? Their destiny is about to change as silence descends into the alley.
Enjoy the story today. https://bit.ly/The_Jewel

In Marlene M. Bell's Scattered Legacy, we get to revisit a couple of our favorites, Annalisse and Alec. In this story, we go across the pond in what should be a getaway trip for the pair to visit Alec's mother's Italian birthplace. But, what should be an enjoyable trip turns into quite something else.

There are many aspects to this story that are appealing - first of all, and a favorite of mine, is great character development. Having read the last book in the series, I already had a hook with these characters, but even though I had that knowledge of them before, I feel like Bell was able to continue giving me more of their characters' layers. Add to that the action-packed backdrop and, yes, even a little romance, and you have yourself a fantastic story.

Could I have taken more romance? Yes. I am primarily a romance-read-lover after all. But for those who prefer their action with a smidge of romance, well, this story is definitely for you.

Frankly, with Bell's writing, it is extremely easy to get lost in this story. And this is exactly why the action works so well. I found myself  turning page after page, looking for one more turn...one more scene in this story. It definitely is worth the read for the sheer experience of living a fast and adventurous lifestyle without having to leave your reading nook.

I definitely recommend interested readers to read the series as it was released. It will help you develop, not only the knowledge of these characters, but the admiration and awe for them too.
