I think I read Kimberley Packard’s This Time Around at the perfect time. As someone who just turned 40, it was both fun and humbling to read about Josie’s life in the present and in the “what if” of the past. I found Packard’s storytelling to be full-bodied and attention-grabbing. It had all of what a reader expects from a contemporary novel about a woman in the face of never-ending stress with this fun (for us?) twist of going back in time to her teenage years.
Who hasn’t thought of having the possibility of going back to the past? How many of us would choose our teenage years….eh not sure about that. But in the case of Josie, with everything falling apart in her life, the ability to go back to her senior year - a time where everything first fell apart - is quite the gift.
I found this story to be well-written and so enjoyable to read. It is definitely for readers of contemporary stories and especially those stories about the life of women.
