REVIEW
The characters are well-rounded in that they have weight to them. They did not just spring up out of no where, no, these characters are as complicated as their tale and very much not black and white. There is a whole lot of gray in the characters and that's exactly what drew me in. I am a character-driver reader, and I need characters to be more than the cookie cutter variety. Even in my preferred genre, romance, where everything is forumlaic - I still need the characters to have layers. The characters in Hollow Out the Dark definitely have layers.
Wade did a fantastic job in creating an atmosphere so "thick" that it was impossible not to imagine it around me. You could feel the oppressive weight of the heartbreak throughout the story and it made for quite an immersive read. I will say that the beginning was a bit slow-going for me - not sure if that was the story or if it is because this book is way out of my usual, but once I got past the beginning, I was able to fly through it.
